Art to me:
Art doesn't have to be complicated, deep, intellectual, or incomprehensible
by anyone who hasn't studied it. It doesn't need a long-winded explanation
that most people can't even understand, let alone appreciate. Art can be
enjoyed on a less complicated level. If you like the way something looks,
then it can be just that.
I don't feel that it's always necessary to explain why you enjoy a particular
work of art. If you can, then that's great; I just don't see it as a
requirement to appreciating art. Maybe you just think it looks cool and
you like the colors. I can connect with that kind of appreciation more
readily than I can with most artist statements out there. And to me,
that's what art's all about: connecting the viewer to the artist on some
level, even if it is a simple one. I paint because I enjoy it. Art is meant to
be enjoyed both by the artist and the viewer. I hope you enjoy my art, on
any level.
